{"id":1529,"date":"2020-01-23T10:58:29","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T17:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/?p=1529"},"modified":"2020-01-23T10:58:29","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T17:58:29","slug":"time-to-review-your-foreign-supplier-fsvp-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/time-to-review-your-foreign-supplier-fsvp-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Time to review your foreign supplier (FSVP) program?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marianboardley.com\/charts\/21%20cfr%201.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1538 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Picture1.jpg?resize=474%2C203&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"FSMA FSVP FDA 2019\" width=\"474\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Picture1.jpg?w=630&amp;ssl=1 630w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Picture1.jpg?resize=300%2C129&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/marianboardley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Picture1.jpg?resize=150%2C65&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The FSVP regulation requires importers to perform certain risk-based activities to verify that human or animal food they import into the United States has been produced in a manner that meets applicable U.S. food safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I have noticed several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations\/compliance-actions-and-activities\/warning-letters\">FDA Warning Letters<\/a> for FSVP inspections.\u00a0 FDA appears now to be conducting FSVP-specific inspections, for example, in one letter they state:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>On June 28, 2019, the Food and Drug Administration conducted a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) inspection at your facility&#8230;.This inspection was conducted to determine compliance with the requirements of section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&amp;C Act) (21 U.S.C. 384a) and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) implementing regulation in 21 CFR part 1 subpart L.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>and, notably:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>At the conclusion of the inspection our investigator provided you with a Form FDA 483a, FSVP Observations.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There seems to be a specific Form 483a which is used for these inspections.\u00a0 However, a search at FDA.gov did not yield a example of this form.
